The 2025 edition of the UCLA Hollywood Diversity Report has determined that the proportion of people of color working in key entertainment roles dropped compared with their white counterparts in every area from 2023 to 2024. This is despite findings that also show that films with casts that reflect the diversity of the real world performed better at the box office. “Last year, we celebrated some historic highs for people of color in the industry,” Ana-Christina Ramón, the report’s co-founder and director of UCLA’s Entertainment and Media Research Initiative, said in a statement. “But 2024 saw a widespread reversal, as film studios retreated from racial and ethnic diversity in front of and behind the camera.”

Joe (voiced by Jamie Foxx), a middle school band teacher, gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town. But one small misstep takes him to a land of unfulfilled souls. Through this musical journey, Joe tries to persuade them of the value of the human experience — and learns that it is each moment lived, no matter how small, that gives all time on Earth meaning. Admission is free. Seats are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Alum Sabrina Langlois wins prestigious opera award
Sabrina Langlois, alum of The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, has won third prize in the 2025 Western Regional Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. Langlois has made a number of prominent appearances since graduating in 2023 with a masters in vocal performance under the direction of Professor Juliana Gondek. She performed as soprano soloist in the premiere of Rhiannon Giddens’ chamber opera, “Omar’s Journey” at the 2023 Ojai Music Festival, with Opera Saratoga in New York and two consecutive summers with the Ravinia Festival in the Chicago metropolitan region. Langlois regularly performs with the Los Angeles Opera Chorus.
