UCLA research suggests that some people are more likely to age successfully when they maintain this one childhood trait throughout their lives.

“People don’t change their behavior much,” said Brian Taylor, a research fellow at the UCLA Institute of Transportation Studies. If traffic sometimes seems lighter in Los Angeles,, it is because small reductions in vehicles on the city’s near-capacity freeways create outsized changes in flow. “A 10% drop in traffic can result in a 40% or 50% drop in delay,” Taylor said.

UCLA climate scientist Alex Hall says it could help prevent the next catastrophic wildfire. “There’s the scientific piece of understanding when the events are truly dangerous,” says Hall. “Then, there’s the collective action piece of agreeing in advance what our actions are going to be. I think if we did all of that, we would be safer.”
