Yesterday I addressed the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce in a hearing focused on the troubling rise of antisemitism on college campuses. I reaffirmed that all forms of discrimination on the basis of one’s background, identity, ethnicity, race or religion are completely antithetical to UCLA’s values and corrosive to our culture — and outlined UCLA’s commitment to an inclusive campus. The 3rd annual Yummy Bowl Benefit, hosted by the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture’s Department of Art and its Ceramics Area, raised a record $11,047 for UCLA’s on-campus food closet — both exceeding its goal and besting previous Yummy Bowls. The benefit requires months of preparation. Last January, alumni, students, staff and faculty gathered for a bowl-making marathon, using throwing wheels, slab and coil building techniques, and a selection of glazes to make the one-of-a-kind bowls.
