This series of short films by and about Breath(e) artist Cannupa Hanska Luger illuminates how the artist approaches Indigenous futurism, blending media, place, storytelling and documentation of a living practice. Hanska Luger invites audiences to consider how we choose to dream of our collective future while challenging us to imagine a vibrant post-capitalist, post-colonial experience where humans restore their bonds with the earth and each other.

The Dialogue across Difference Initiative at UCLA is proud to offer an interactive opportunity for staff, administrators and faculty to delve deeper into a core skill for having more constructive conversations across charged political differences. Using the methodology of Resetting the Table, a nationally recognized organization dedicated to building courageous communication, this workshop will allow participants to practice speaking about divisive political topics using effective communication skills. Space is limited — spots are given on a first-come, first-served basis. The DaD Initiative will host more of these sessions in the future, so if you are not able to join this session you will be placed on a waitlist for the next opportunity.

The nation’s largest art event, PST Art, is in full swing as of this past weekend. UCLA plays a major role in this year’s Getty-funded initiative under the theme “Art & Science Collide.” Events and exhibitions from the Hammer and Fowler Museums, the UCLA ArtSci Center and UCLA Arts Conditional Studio and the Film and Television Archive invite us to explore artist perspectives on climate and social justice, indigenous innovation and indigenous futurism, eco-acoustics, close interrogations of our tethers to technology, global sci-fi storytelling and much more — including bees. Yes, bees. A hive of bees is partnering with their artist caretaker to create a sculpture in the Hammer Museum. It’s a must-see.
Take note of the UCLA people and projects involved with PST Art by way of this new GoArts blog. And subscribe to the weekly GoArts newsletter to stay apprised of upcoming events and activities!
