It’s Native American Heritage Month and we’re celebrating UCLA alumna Sarah Rosalena, (Wixárika), an interdisciplinary artist and weaver based in Los Angeles. She is known for breaking boundaries using hybrid artmaking practices to create work with themes rooted in Indigenous cosmologies. Her approach to “computational craft” appears in six different PST Art exhibitions, including the above work titled Exit Point, now on view at the Hammer Museum as part of the PST Art exhibition Breath(e): Through Climate and Social Justice. But what is “computational craft?” you ask? Learn more about how Rosalena harnesses both analog and traditional techniques in this video from UCSB, where she is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Art.
