Many Americans who may not be interested in the nuances of higher-education policy are nonetheless invested in what happens in colleges. Campuses have become a critical battleground for those who care about how research is conducted and how policy is set on climate, public health, the law and a host of other issues, said Eddie R. Cole, UCLA professor of education and history who has written about the importance of higher-education leadership in the push for racial equality.

Forget Shark Week! Bee Week is taking over the Hammer starting this Sunday as part of the Breath(e) exhibition program series, featuring bee talks, honey tastings and screenings.
Not only can you check in on the progress of the live hive creating a new work, in partnership with sculptor Garnett Puett (a truly unique and oddly meditative site to behold!), but you can also view a screening of the film “Microcosmos” this Sunday morning, and then learn about the skills required in macrophotography in a bee-focused, hands-on workshop with conservation photographer Krystle Hickman in the afternoon. On site throughout the week will be resident beekeeper extraordinaire Joe O’Brian who will teach visitors all about honey bees, varieties of honey as well as bee and plant species that are native to California.
